Math, Period 1

8/19/16

This week in Math, students took a Beginning of the Year (BOY) Math assessment for the 5th Grade.  A lot of what was on the assessment was new for the students.  As students completed the assessment, they were able to work independantly, or silently with a partner, creating shapes and animals using tangrams.  Students also practice identifying place value, learned classroom procedures, and expectations for the math environment.

This week, we continue to explore place value.  Students will be working on identifying digits in the Tenths, Hundredths, and Thousandths place, writing numbers in standard form, word form, and expanded form.  BOY Assessments have been completed.

This week, we are working on multiplying and dividing by 10 and our main focus will be on rounding decimals in various place values.  Reflex Math login codes aill be coming home on Wednesday.  Look for these codes to be taped into the students homework folders, along with a parent letter.  Days when students do not have homework would be an excellent opportunity for students to use their time wisely by logging into Reflex Math.
